International Workers' Day: Oshimili South NUT Chairman, Mokogwu Hails Teachers, Urges More Commitment

As workers all over the globe mark May 1st otherwise known as workers day, the Chairman of Oshimili South Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comr. Chinedu Mokogwu has lauded teachers, especially those in Oshimili South for their unwavering efforts in nurturing future generations and fostering academic excellence.
Comr. Mokogwu in a statement, said that teachers' invaluable contributions to societal development was unequalled, adding that teaching was  a noble profession that requires sacrifice, resilience Ang perseverance in building minds .
He stated that the day was set aside to honour workers, highlight labour rights, solidarity and social justice, stressing that workers' day was a global day of reflection and advocacy for a better working condition as well as celebration of workers' contributions to the society.
While congratulating teachers in Oshimili South on the occasion of the May Day Celebration, Comr. Mokogwu said that their collective support towards achieving a common goal had been a source of strength to him and his executive.
Recalling that as educators, teachers had always encountered many challenges in the course of discharging their statutory responsibility, Comr. Mokogwu emphasized that teachers had continued to remain steadfast in ensuring that the right mentorship were rendered to the children at all times for the overall growth and development of the society.

Comr. Mokogwu  appreciated the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing the welfare and upliftment of teachers in the State, particularly for approving the 65 years of retirement age for teachers, lifting the stagnation of teachers who were long over due for promotion and ensuring that teachers were promoted as at when due.

He also extended his profound gratitude to the Governor for ensuring that primary school teachers with the University degree that were deprived from progressing above level 14 enjoy promotion above the level in line with what their counterparts in secondary schools were enjoying.

The Oshimili South NUT Chairman, however, called for a better working condition for teachers, just as he specifically commended the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon.(Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyeli for his support to Oshimili South NUT and teachers all over the council for dedication and support.

In a related development, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. (Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyeli and the Oshimili South NUT Chairman, Comr. Chinedu Mokogwu used the occasion of May Day to applaud the Delta State NUT Chairman, Comr . Dickson Poubeni and Board of Trustees of the Union for driving the Union to enviable height.
