Read her statement below:
I received with great shock and deep concern the unfortunate report of the brutal assault on Miss Jennifer Edema Elohor an Urhobo daughter from Delta State currently serving her fatherland under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State. The said assault, perpetrated by members of a local vigilante group, is not only barbaric and inhumane but also an unacceptable affront to the dignity of Nigerian youths who sacrifice daily to serve the nation under the NYSC scheme.
Upon hearing of this disturbing incident, I immediately reached out to the Honourable Minister of Youth, who assured me that the Ministry , the state Government and the Nigeria Police Force were already on top of the matter. Again today, I placed a direct call to the Honourable Minister of Youth, who confirmed that the perpetrators have been apprehended and will be charged to court tomorrow.
While I commend the swift intervention of the Ministry of Youth and the Nigeria Police, I want to categorically state that such an act must never be tolerated in our society. I will personally follow up on this matter to ensure that justice is served and that this case sets a strong precedent—so that never again will any corps member, especially our daughters and sisters, be subjected to such degrading treatment.
Our youths are the pride of our nation; their safety and dignity must be protected at all costs. I stand firmly with Miss Jennifer Edema Elohor, her family, and the entire Urhobo Nation in demanding justice and ensuring her wellbeing.
