Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke, has applauded the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban for donating a solar-powered freezer to the Sapele Local Government Health Centre, describing the gesture as a timely and life-changing intervention.

Speaking during the official handover of the equipment at the council secretariat, Hon. Abeke expressed deep appreciation to the club for its continued commitment to humanitarian service and grassroots development. He noted that the donation would significantly enhance healthcare delivery within the local government, especially in vaccine storage and immunization efforts.

“We are sincerely grateful to the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban for this kind gesture,” Abeke stated. “This solar freezer is not just equipment; it is a tool that will help save lives. It will strengthen our healthcare system and ensure the safe preservation of essential medical supplies, particularly in areas with power supply challenges.”

Hon. Abeke further encouraged other organizations to emulate the selfless contributions of Rotary, which he described as a key partner in the development of the local government area.

Earlier in his remarks, President of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban, Rotarian Festus Oseni, said the donation was part of the club’s global mission to promote humanitarian causes and sustainable development.

“Rotary clubs across the world are deeply committed to uplifting communities by addressing pressing issues such as poverty, healthcare, and environmental sustainability,” Oseni said. “In line with this mission, we are honoured to donate this solar freezer to the health centre in Sapele. We believe this will revolutionize healthcare services and ultimately transform lives.”

According to Oseni, the club identified the need for a reliable vaccine storage system and responded with a solution that is not only sustainable but capable of operating independently of the erratic power supply in the area.

The brief ceremony was witnessed by several key members of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban, including Rotarian Adanma Eguvwebere (Secretary), Rotarian Richard Okotie (Project Chair/President-Elect), Rotarian Julius Eguvwebere (Past Assistant Governor/Grant Chair), Rotarian Anthony Owumi (President Nominee), and Rotarian Matilda Obi (Polio Chair).

Health workers and community members present commended the initiative, noting that it would boost the efficiency of healthcare delivery in the council. The solar freezer is expected to improve the storage of vaccines and essential drugs, thereby reducing medical waste and ensuring consistent access to vital health interventions.
