Two Years in Office: Oborevwori Has Made Bold Footprints – Honourable Deacon Joseph Otirhue

As the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State clocks two years, notable Deltans and political stakeholders have continued to assess his performance, with commendations pouring in for what many have described as a steady and impactful leadership.

One of such voices is the Chairman of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Honourable Deacon Joseph Otirhue, who, in a statement made available to newsmen, said that Governor Oborevwori has made "bold and measurable footprints" in his first two years in office.
According to Honourable Otirhue, the governor has demonstrated political maturity, administrative competence, and a genuine commitment to people-centered governance, in line with his MORE Agenda — which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

“Governor Oborevwori has brought a calm, pragmatic, and inclusive style of governance to Delta State,” Honourable Otirhue said. “His ability to sustain peace across the state while embarking on legacy projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment is commendable.”
One of the landmark projects cited by Honourable Otirhue is the ongoing construction of the multi-billion-naira Effurun Flyover bridges, being handled by construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. He described the project as a transformational initiative that will ease traffic congestion, boost commercial activity, and enhance urban development in Warri and its environs. He also praised the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly the prompt and consistent payment of civil servants’ salaries, often ahead of schedule — a move he said has brought stability and motivation to the state's workforce amid the prevailing national economic challenges.

Highlighting other achievements, Honourable Otirhue pointed to the near-completion of the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway, a legacy project inherited from the previous administration but accelerated under Oborevwori’s watch.

“Anyone who has travelled from Ughelli through Ozoro to Asaba will attest to the quality of work going on. This is one of the bold footprints I refer to. The economic significance of that road to commerce, transport, and internal integration is immense,” he stated.

Honourable Otirhue also commended the administration’s commitment to education reform, including the renovation of public schools, recruitment of qualified government primary school teachers across the state, and provision of learning materials across local government areas.

“Education is the backbone of any serious government, and the Oborevwori-led government understands this. The ongoing intervention in primary and secondary education, as well as support for tertiary institutions in the state, is a step in the right direction.”

On youth empowerment and social welfare, the Commission Chairman lauded initiatives such as the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) development schemes and skills acquisition programs that have empowered thousands of young people.

“In a state with a large youthful population, job creation must be prioritized. The administration’s effort in training, funding, and mentoring youths to become self-reliant deserves more recognition than it is currently getting,” Honourable Otirhue said.

He urged the people of Delta to continue supporting the governor, noting that the path of development is often gradual and requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.

“Critics may have their views, but no one can deny that something new is happening in Delta. The governor is not loud about it, but the results are becoming evident. Roads are being constructed, schools are renovated and people feel safer,” he added.

As the administration enters its third year, expectations are high that Governor Oborevwori will consolidate on his achievements and fast-track the completion of ongoing projects across the state.
