Building Resilience and Saving Lives: Two Years of Remarkable Strides at Delta’s Bureau for Special Duties

As Governor Sheriff Oborevwori marks his second year in office, one of the ministries making quiet but profound impact is the Bureau for Special Duties. Under the leadership of Hon. Ejiro Etacherure, the Bureau has not only responded effectively to emergencies but has also strengthened the institutions that manage disasters, support religious pilgrimages, and provide critical public safety services.

The Bureau for Special Duties supervises four key parastatals in Delta State: The State Fire Service, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, and the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board. Each of these plays a distinct role in the well-being and safety of Deltans.

The Bureau has also recorded success in religious pilgrimage coordination. In the last Christian pilgrimage, 272 participants embarked on the journey and all returned. Disaster relief distribution is now a regular feature of the Bureau’s operations, reaching victims in Ndokwa East, Isoko, Oshimili South, Bomadi, Patani and other LGAs. With swift approvals from the governor, the Bureau has delivered food items, bedding, and other essentials within days of disasters occurring.
“These aren’t token gestures; they are consistent, structured interventions that happen almost every month,” Etacherure stated.

Notably, all new fire stations are being equipped with solar-powered boreholes to ensure constant water supply for firefighting purposes, an innovation designed to tackle power outages and improve efficiency.

As Delta State continues to grow under the MORE agenda, the Bureau for Special Duties stands out as a vital pillar of safety, compassion, and forward-thinking governance.
