Security is Everyone's Business

Security is Everyone's Business

As a journalist and public enlightenment officer, I have had the opportunity to travel across the state and interact with various communities. One thing that has become increasingly clear to me is that security is a major concern for everyone.

In recent times, the spate of violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism has been on the rise. This has led to a sense of insecurity among the populace, with many people living in fear of becoming the next victim.

However, I strongly believe that security should not be left solely in the hands of the government and security agencies. It is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of every citizen.

As individuals, we must take responsibility for our own security and that of our communities. This can be achieved through simple measures such as being vigilant and reporting suspicious activities to the authorities, forming neighborhood watch groups, and supporting community policing initiatives.

Moreover, we must also recognize that security is not just about physical protection, but also about addressing the underlying social and economic issues that contribute to insecurity. This includes providing education and job opportunities, addressing poverty and inequality, and promoting social justice.

In Delta State, the government has taken several steps to address the security challenges facing the state. These include:

- The establishment of the Delta State Security Council, a high-level body tasked with coordinating security efforts across the state.
- The launch of Operation Delta Hawk, a comprehensive security operation aimed at combating crime and ensuring public safety.
- The training and empowerment of local vigilantes, enabling them to effectively support security personnel in maintaining law and order across the state.

These measures demonstrate the government's commitment to addressing the security concerns of Delta State and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

However, despite these efforts, more needs to be done to address the security challenges facing the state. This is why I am calling on every citizen to take an active interest in security matters and to work together to create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.

Let us remember that security is everyone's business, and we must all play our part in ensuring that our communities are safe and secure.
