The Honourable Councillor representing the good people of ward 19 in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, Engr. Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan has distributed over 2,000 notebooks to pupils of Ozue and Okokporo Primary Schools respectively.
The distribution of the notebooks tagged, "Let's Encourage the Children to Learn", began on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024 with Ozue Primary School, Okuovu-Okpe, as the Honourable councillor and his team later moved to Okokporo Primary School, Okegberode, both in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking during the distribution of the notebooks, Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan, councillor ward 19, said that, he has come to promote the MORE AGENDA of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Executive Governor of Delta State".
"Education is very vital for success, hence I have come to promote education and encourage the pupils to learn".
This is my community, I was sent by my people to represent them as councillor, I have come to give back to them through these notebooks. If they get good education, they will turn out fine in society, he added.
Hon. Dr David Oghenekevwe (JP), a PDP chieftain who spoke to Sapele Mirror News said, "this is my community, this is the primary school where I finished from, I am glad to be here today to witness this ceremony, I want to appreciate our councillor representing Ozue for coming up with this educational project which encourages children to learn, he said.
The school headmistress of Ozue Primary School, who gave her name as Mrs Ogbare Philomena, thanked the Honourable Councillor for the writing material.
In the same vein, the Headmistress of Okokporo Primary School, Okegberode, Mrs Okotie P. O. while appreciating Hon Peter Eferurie Adjemiyotan for the educational materials, lambasted the non-challant attitude of the parents in Okegberode community. She frowned at the lack of enthusiasm by the parents of the community towards education.
This is a community school with more than six class rooms, but you can hardly get up to 10 pupils in a class room, the pupils are not ready to learn and the parents are not encouraging their children to learn, they rather take them to farm to work for them and this is very sad. I appeal to the parents to send their children to school, they should encourage them to learn, she added.
Responding on behalf of the pupils, Master Success Umujeyan from Ozue primary school and Master Olise Goodluck from Okokporo primary school thanked the Honourable councillor for the notebooks on behalf of the other pupils.
