Community leader, philanthropist, grassroot PDP mobilizer, Hon Festus Pemu Akponofuo has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of Oyibu of Okpe kingdom by His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo, Orhue 1, CFR, MNI, Orodje of Okpe Kingdom on Thursday, December 7th, 2023.
Chief Festus Pemu Akponofuo was elegantly dressed in white traditional attire, one befitting for his personality, his gait holds sway as he walked to the admiration of guest who came to grace the epoch making ceremony.
The ceremony which saw great sons and daughters of the great kingdom and various dignitaries across the state, took place on Thursday at Udogun Hall, Orerokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.
While Conferring Festus Pemu and his wife with the titles, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Maj- Gen Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), prayed for God’s blessings upon their lives, adding that peace and progress in the kingdom will continue to abide with them.
Speaking during the grand reception ceremony at his residence at Amukpe in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Festus Pemu the “Oyibu of Okpe kingdom,” expressed his heart felt gratitude to God Almighty for a successful ceremony, describing his experience as the best ever since he came into existence.
“Today’s experience is the best ever since I came into existence. I see it as a sign of honour from the highest throne in my ethnic nationality, from his Royal Majesty the Orodje of Our Kingdom,” while counting himself lucky to be selected among those conferred with titles.
“Alot of person applied to be conferred chieftancy titles but few were selected, behold I am one of the very few, I feel very elated for this recognition and for this title the Oyibu “sugar” of Okpe kingdom,” adding that the title is an opportunity to contribute more to the growth of Okpe kingdom, Delta State and Nigeria at large.
“I want to say a very big thank you to His Royal Majesty for giving me this noble title today and I want to dedicate it to God Almighty who made it possible. I see this title as an opportunity to contribute more to the growth of Okpe kingdom, Delta State and Nigeria at large,” he added.
Also speaking, Mr Victor Odjegba, a loyalist and promoter of Chief Festus Pemu congratulate his boss for his achievements and as the Oyibu of Okpe Kingdom and his wife, the Ohonvwore of the kingdom, describing him as a good man.
Chief Julius Egbedi, Hon Commissioner representing Sapele, Okpe and Ethiope West Local Government Areas on the Board of DESOPADEC, said, "firstly, I want to congratulate him for joining the Okpe council of Chiefs, Festus Pemu is a good man, and it is title well deserved, he added.
Chief Benson Okorodudu, who spoke to Sapele Mirror News crew said, "Festus Pemu is a man of the people, it is title well deserved, with this title added to his name, I know he will do more things for his people. I congratulate him and his family, he said.
