Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State - The Okpe Kingdom came alive on Wednesday, December 27th, 2023 as the 12th annual Okpe Kingdom day of Thanksgiving service took place at the prestigious Udogun hall in Orerokpe.
The event, organized by the people of Okpe Kingdom, served as a special day to express gratitude to God for His blessings throughout the year. The occasion was hosted by His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), Orhue 1, CFR, Mni, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, and was conducted in collaboration with the Okpe Christian Assembly worldwide, ably led by Archbishop Godday Iboyi of the Promise Kingdom Ministry, a.k.a Overflow Chapel.
Archbishop Godday Iboyi, who also doubles as Spiritual Leader of Okpe Kingdom emphasized the significance of this year's celebration, stating that the Okpe people had experienced extraordinary blessings over the past 12 months.
"Since our last thanksgiving service, the Lord has tremendously blessed us with the emergence of our sons as the Governor, Senator, House of Representatives member, and more. It is only fitting for the Okpe people to continue praising God for His abundant blessings," he remarked. The Archbishop also called for unity among the Okpe people, stressing its importance in their journey towards prosperity.
Addressing the theme of the event, "Jesus Christ, the King of Kings," Archbishop Dele David, Chairman of the Okpe Christian Assembly, Sapele Chapter, highlighted the spiritual significance of Thanksgiving. He quoted Deuteronomy 16:16, encouraging both Christians and non-Christians to express gratitude to God in all circumstances.
During the Thanksgiving, Okakuro Festus Pemu emphasized the Okpe people's gratitude for the Lord's benevolence, underscoring the importance of continually expressing appreciation. "We gather here today to say thank you, Lord. It is essential because offering gratitude is also a way of seeking more blessings. Therefore, we will persist in our supplications," he reiterated.
Chief Hon Godwin Atose, former Sapele Local Government Council chairman, expounded on the significance of Thanksgiving in Okpe culture. He emphasized the Okpe people's inherent gratitude in all aspects of their lives, stating that the purpose of this Thanksgiving was to express gratitude for the Lord's blessings upon the Okpe Kingdom and to seek further blessings.
Chief Colonel, (Rtd) Moses Babuba Abeke, a prominent chairmanship aspirant for the Sapele Local Government Area, congratulated the Monarch on the successful hosting of the Thanksgiving service. He acknowledged God's faithfulness to the Okpe people and called for enhanced unity and commitment to the Okpe cause. He also offered a special prayer for the protection and success of the State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, in his efforts to improve the State.
Comrade Isreal Otomewo, the President of Okpe Youth Council, emphasized the importance of gratitude. He expressed his gratitude for being invited to the occasion and declared that the Okpe people would continue to move forward, expressing gratitude for God's mercy upon all Okpe sons and daughters. He confidently predicted that next year would bring even greater progress and blessings for the community.
Several other speakers, including Okakuro Efe Uko and various Okpe Ohovwores, echoed the sentiment that next year's Thanksgiving would be more remarkable.
The highlight of the Thanksgiving celebration was the captivating performances by different groups and districts, as they joyously danced forward to express their gratitude to God.
The Okpe Kingdom day of Thanksgiving service undoubtedly left a lasting impression on the attendees, as they expressed heartfelt appreciation for the blessings bestowed upon them and eagerly anticipated a future filled with even more prosperity and progress for the Okpe people.
