SAPELE GETS NEW AREA COMMANDER

SAPELE GETS NEW AREA COMMANDER

The new Area Commander for Sapele, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Innocent Umerie has completed his familiarization tour of the local government areas under his jurisdiction.
The tour culminated today at the headquarters of the Sapele Police Division in Delta State.
In his inaugural visit since assuming leadership over the Sapele Area Command, ACP Umerie left no stone unturned as he meticulously inspected police facilities and held meetings with officers and men.
Sources say the purpose of the tour was to introduce himself, assess the current state of policing in the area, and devise strategies to address any challenges. The officers expressed optimism about working under the tutelage of the new Area Commander.
Welcoming ACP Umerie at the divisional headquarters was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sapele, CSP Harrison Nwaoboshi. In his remarks, the DPO officially welcomed the new boss and highlighted his sterling reputation in the Force for extensive experience, expertise in community oriented policing, and unalloyed commitment to public safety. CSP Nwaoboshi further stated that the tour was aimed at deepening the new commander's understanding of the peculiarities of Sapele and strengthening ties with stakeholders.
Speaking to newsmen after the familiarization tour, ACP Umerie underscored public safety and trust between the people and police as his top priorities. According to him, open communication and collaborative problem-solving are key to effective law enforcement. The new Area Commander signals a redirected focus on maintaining law and order while addressing the root causes of crimes.
Residents who spoke to our correspondent commended the familiarization tour, saying it is a demonstration of the new Area Commander's willingness to hit the ground running. They expressed hope that his tenure will usher in an era of improved security and strengthened community-police cooperation in addressing crimes like cultism and kidnapping which have plagued the area in recent times.
However, some civil society groups have voiced concerns over what they call the "militaristic approach" adopted by the police in the past. They call for true community policing centered around intelligence gathering, police-public partnerships, and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens. Only time will tell how ACP Umerie navigates these dynamics in leading the Sapele Area Command.
As he settles into his new role, ACP Umerie is faced with the challenging task of confronting emerging crimes while rebuilding trust between residents and the police. His commitment to an all-inclusive approach focusing on prevention, partnership and intelligence-driven operations is being watched keenly. With adequate support, perhaps the new Area Commander can steer the Sapele Area Command towards a safer, more secure future for all.
To grace the occasion was the Yoruba, Igbo, and Arewa speaking tribe, members of the vigilante, and anti cult group were also present.
Members of the PCRC led by its vice chairman Sapele Area Command, Comrade Patrick Erugba Godwin a.k.a were also on ground to grace the ceremony.
