Task Force Crackdown Yields Six Arrests in Sapele Drug Raid
In a major breakthrough, the Delta State Task Force on Drugs and Human Trafficking has achieved success in its ongoing efforts to clamp down on cartels operating in the state.
Following a tip-off, the committee led a coordinated raid on Sunday against drug dens in Sapele LGA, arresting six suspects including four men and two women. Various narcotic substances estimated to be worth millions of naira were also recovered.
The apprehended individuals and confiscated exhibits were promptly handed over to the NDLEA. Briefing journalists afterwards, the committee spokesman said the arrests were made possible through intelligence gathering.
Sapele LGA Chairman Hon. Eugene Inoaghan lauded the state government for the task force and its chairman, Pastor Omasan Mabiaku. He urged parents to advise children against drugs.
Pastor Mabiaku reiterated the mandate to eliminate narcotics and human trafficking. "The government will ensure prosecutions," he affirmed.
Chief Cyril Ogodo, a community leader, praised the appointment of Mabiaku, saying: "Drug abuse has worsened moral decay. The committee's work will help redeem our youth and rid the state of this menace."
Task force spokesperson Ese Sanco said most Delta youths are hooked to narcotics and commended efforts to address this challenge. He vowed for a drug-free state going forward.
With strong political will and joint actions, the war on drugs in Delta looks set to yield more positive results.
