The descendants of the Omene dynasty in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State has kick start the building of an ultra modern market with 140 lock up stores, a spare part market and mechanic village in Akpobome.
The market is aimed to provide job and improve the life standards and economy of the people, especially women and youths.
Chief Engr Joe Omene, former President General of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, while addressing journalist on Thursday, September 28th, 2023 said, "we decided to embark on this project because it will provide job opportunities for a lot of person". Again, Mosogar has no market where the traders sell their goods conveniently, apart from those who sell by the main road, open air shops, it is difficult to get goods at a centralized venue in Mosogar. Once it rains, the business for that day is closed, because the traders have no choice that to go home to prevent their goods from being destroyed by rain, if they had a store, they wouldn't have to go home abruptly whenever it rains, hence we decided to build a market for the community.
Speaking further, Joe Omene said, "the market is built on parcels of land donated by different members of the Omene family, and funded by individuals who have the interest and well being of Mosogar at heart".
Some person contributed five million naira, others two million, anything you can give according to your capacity, there are sons and daughters that gave one trip of sand, two bags of cement as their own contributions.
We could have cried to the government to build the market for us, but we decided to kick start and fund it by ourselves, but that does not mean we do not need the support of the Delta State Government, or cooperate bodies. When the times comes we will reach out to the government for support to enable us complete the project which we have started, he said.
The market is expected to be one of the best in Nigeria, when it is completed, as it will not only provide job opportunities for individuals, but improve the overall economy of Mosogar and standard of living, he added.
